Mistake #1: Your Ad is About You, not Your Customer
Your Ad might appear very good. But you have to consider the audience. Is it about what they want? That's what matters. Your Ad must relate to the person who sees it. More specifically, it should relate to what they are looking for. Rather than saying "We sell the best shoes at the lowest price because we are the best shoe store" say "Do You Need New Shoes? Compare our prices and quality!". Test variations of your Ad to get the best return on investment.
Mistake #2: Poor Landing Page
If you're paying for every click you need to make the most of it. A good Ad is necessary, but it's a waste of money if there are no sales. The purpose of the Ad is to get action, usually a click. The landing page is then responsible for the next step. It must contain what the person is looking for. It should be clear and should address the person's needs. It should be all about the website visitor and should prompt them with a good call to action. What should they do next? Call or buy or request something? Make it clear and compelling. Test variations of your landing page to get the best return on investment.
Mistake #3: Advertising to the Wrong Audience
With both Facebook and Google advertising you have a lot of control over who sees your Ads. The challenge is to narrow down your audience so your Ad shows to those who are interested in your offer. With Facebook you can target your Ads to people based on demographics, location, interests, and behaviors. You can do the same with Google Banner Ads. Google also lets you choose the types of websites your Ads appear on. Test variations of audiences to get the most return on investment.
Which Mistake did Chad Make?
He got clicks so his Ad must have been good and the right people were seeing the Ad. Because he got no sales he must have made Mistake #2. His landing page generated no calls, leads, or sales. The next thing Chad should do is find out why his landing page failed and fix it.
